About Us

We're Matthiesen's Deer & Custom Processing, and we've been a meat processor in De Witt, IA, since 1989. We offer a wide selection of services, including catering. Sausage, ring bologna, hot dogs, and breakfast sausage are just some of the items we make fresh daily. Our catering menu includes everything from breakfast items to full course dinners. Try our mango-habanero brats or Italian sausage in marinara sauce on a hoagie bun. We're looking forward to partnering with De Witt area consumers to continue to provide a premier experience. Our Story

Our co-owners, Chuck and Sandy Matthiesen got their start in the meat processing industry long before they opened a business of their own. Chuck’s father started a meat locker in DeWitt many years ago and eventually sold it to Chuck’s brother, Max. When they closed, Chuck and Sandy decided to open their own place because customers in the area would still call up Chuck for business.

Chuck is a hunter and often made sausage for himself and his family. Word got around and people in the community wanted some too! Chuck and Sandy turned a building they owned into a deer processing business and used it for extra income for 10 years. Matthiesen’s Deer & Custom Processing became so successful that Chuck quit his other job to do this full time!

The Matthiesens then added onto the building and made a slaughterhouse for butchering, so they could process beef, hog, and more meat. We make sausage, hot dogs and brats, ring bologna, and other delicious meats for our loyal customers. We are a small business that cares, and our slogan is Quality First!

Quality has no substitute, and neither does friendly service, loyalty, and a great selection, which makes Matthiesen’s Deer & Custom Processing a no-brainer for all your butchering and meat processing needs. We also provide catering for large events, like weddings, birthdays, graduations, and more.

I've had several people mention Matthiesen's for catering on various occasions, but I'd never had the opportunity to use them. Well, that all changed a couple weeks ago when I needed to plan a dinner for 30 in a hangar at the Clinton Airport. One phone call with the VERY helpful and friendly Angie, and everything was arranged. When I hung up the phone, I was actually a little dumbfounded at how simple the whole process was. She took my name and number and basic information about the where & when, and that was it. No credit card, nothing. I book dinners for this group on a monthly basis, usually at restaurants, and no one has ever made it this easy. I was out of town the entire following week, and had planned to re-confirm everything with Angie on Monday for our Tuesday night dinner, but work got in the way and I never got around to calling. I figured, well, at this point, it is what it is. Well, at about 5:45 last night, as promised, the Matthiesen's van pulled up to the hangar and delivered & setup our meat and cheese platter and said they'd be back to setup the rest of the food for our 7pm dinner. I'm happy to say that our group was standing in the buffet line at 7pm on the dot. The food was hot and fresh and delicious! It was also plentiful! Our group of 30 barely ate half of what was delivered, and they were all big eaters! From start to finish, everything about my experience with Matthiesen's was top notch. The ease of getting it all set up, the friendliness of the staff, the food, the price, EVERYTHING was great! We'll definitely be calling again!
